Supplies

Audrey Hepburn is the definition of class. She has a radiating beauty that has lasted long throughout the years. Today I will be giving a twist to her classic style, which is a daily basic for me. Most importantly for this look, you can never have too much shimmer!

Supplies:

-Hair Spray

-Blow Dryer

-Round Brush

-Foundation

-Coral Blush

-Silver/Gold Shimmer Eye Shadow

-Nude/Cream Eye Shadow

-Light Pink Shimmer Eye Shadow

-Deep Coral Lipstick

-Powder

-Eye Liner (Both Stick and Liquid)

-Volumizing Mascara

Step One: Prepping Your Hair

For this particular variation you won't need to have freshly washed hair, in fact a day old washing does wonders. First you will want to dampen your hair lightly. Fill a squirt bottle with water and lightly coat your hair. Next take the hair spray and add a medium coat of hair spray to your hair.

NOTE: By holding both the water and hair spray about 4 inches from your head can make it easier to control exactly how much of both is actually applied.

WARNING: Too much hair spray before blow drying will cause your hair to be weighed down. If you are unsure less is always better :)

Step 2: Styling Your Hair

Now you will take your round brush and hair dryer and slowly start to style your hair. Patience is key in this step, especially if you want a fantastic do! You will need to start at the top of your head and create volume. Many find the easiest way to do this is to flip your head over and dry it that way. But you need to be careful and not bring the dryer more than half way through your hair. Start at the roots, and slowly pull the brush and dryer to the half way point and stop there, there is a reason for this.

Once your roots are done, flip your head back upright. This is the time to dry the bottom half of your hair. Place the brush on the under side of your hair, nearest to your neck, and blow dry. While pulling the brush through your hair make a slight curve away from your neck, then right as you get to the ends make a sharp curve into your neck so that the ends curl softly in. Repeat throughout the entirety of your hair.

The last step to take when doing your hair will be to take the top half of your hair and put it into a lose pony tail using a small elastic. Once it is up separate the small pony into two sections and pull them apart (like you are tightening it) a little at a time. Repeat once or twice more. By doing this you will have created a half up do with volume. Now take some hair spray and coat that top layer in a good amount of hair spray. Then take the round brush and smooth out any bumps or holes that may have appeared.

NOTE: Be very patient. Rushing through this step could create an unwanted mess.

Step 3: Prepping Your Face

When putting on any kind of foundation I find it a necessity to moisturize before I put anything at all on my face. Doing this will make it easier to not only takeoff your makeup at the end of the day, but it will also help to make your skin more manageable. If you wish moisturize before proceeding, if not move on.

For me, I am always very cautious when applying any look that uses more than the bare necessities. One reason in particular is that I don't want it to be anything other than what I am trying to achieve, so by rushing I always find it a tad sloppy. Take your time, the longer time you spend on this look, the better it will come out.

To start out, when applying foundation (if it is a liquid foundation that you pump or pour out and not a mineral/powder foundation,) I never apply the foundation to a pad and then to the skin. What I tend to do instead is apply the foundation directly to my face and then spread it evenly throughout my face with a sponge/pad. Make sure that everything is blended well and that there is not any streaks or lines.

Step 4: Cheeks

Blush is always an easy way to brighten your face up just a little bit. For an Audrey inspired glow, take a coral colored blush and apply from just under your cheek bone to the top of your cheek bone (normally to the left/right of your eye.) If you have a little trouble finding this spot take your index finger and place it directly under your eye. Draw a backwards capitol L with your finger about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch down and 1/8 an inch over, this will be your starting point.

Make sure to keep the blush to a minimum, we don't want you ladies looking like clowns. Just a few swipes will give you the perfect glow we are going for.

Step 5: Eyes

This is where I put an updated twist on Mrs. Hepburn's classic look. Instead of keeping it with matted neutrals, I add a little shine. First you will want to take a silver/gold shimmer powder and lightly highlight your brow bone. Start from the inside and work your way out, no need to worry about being perfect, we will be blending this in later.

Now take a light pink shimmer powder and cover your lid thoroughly. Giving it at least two coats will make any color eye pop. As before don't worry about being perfect, in my experiencewhen the shadow falls underneath onto the cheeks it gives it that extra umph that perfects the look.

Now you will want to crease your lid with a nude/ cream shadow topped with a medium brown shadow to define the eyes. Make sure to take the cream color to the brown bone, but don't go over the silver/gold just yet. Be careful on the crease, you don't want to pick up any of that pink just yet.

What you will need to do now for blending the eye is quite simple, just don't over blend or the colors will get lost in each other. By making light circles with a small eye brush right below the crease and eye brow you can magically turn this into an anytime look. Keep the circles tight as to avoid over blending.

This is the Audrey look done without the hair. It is one of my day to day looks, that I have absolutely fallen in love with!

Step 6: Liner and Mascara

Your almost there! With the liner you are going to want to make a medium thickness line, with the inner eye being the thinnest. Keeping a steady hand will be key here, so placing your elbow of the hand you are using to apply the liner will be very helpful.

Start in the inner corner of the eye and make a thin line that goes up towards your eyebrow and returns to the outer corner of your lid. Fill in the gaps between your lash and the top of that line, making sure to "color inside the lines." If you want to add an extra flare you can drag the liner out past the corners and create wings, but for this rendition I chose to go without them.

To line the under eye you will want to use the liner stick. To achieve the thin line (shown in the picture) take your pinky finger and pull your bottom lashes down. Apply the liner fully from the inner corner of your lid to the outer corner.

Next you will want to use some volumizing mascara to plump your eyelashes to the extreme. Drag the applicator back and forth to ensure you get the mascara all the way to the lash line. When I am going for thick lashes I always apply at least three coats of mascara using the back and forth technique, to give me thick lashes without clumps.

NOTE:If you do happen to get a few clumps don't panic, they are easy to remove. Take anything with a small sharp point (like a sewing needle or safety pin) and carefully put the tip of it in the middle of the clump. Pull up, and the clump should be gone, if it is still too chunky for your taste you can repeat as many times as needed.

WARNING:Use extreme caution when using the safety pin option. You don't want to poke your eye! Another alternative is to use and eyebrow brush to un-clump your lashes.

Step 7: Lips and Finishing Touches

For my Audrey inspired lips I have used a deep coral. Line your lips if you wish, and add a generous amount of this color to the top and bottom lip. Following the natural line of your lip is ideal, but if you wish you can create a pout if you like by going just outside the bottom line of your lip. Be careful though going to far could push the lips out of proportion.

TIP: For long lasting lips with any color lipstick coat your lips with packed powder. To do this take any powder with a fluff-pad and get plenty of powder on the puff. Then simply pack the powder onto your lips!

To finish this look I take a translucent powder and apply all over my face, avoiding my eyes and lips. And voila! This look can be used day or night, rain or shine, and is a year round favorite for me and a few close friends. I hope you enjoyed. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any tips. I would be glad to help!
